Kinetics will Issue Royalty-free Licenses of Their Modular Surface-Mount Substrate Design

SANTA CLARA, Calif., August 15, 2000 - Kinetics Group, Inc., the global leader in critical process infrastructure, today announced they would be offering non-exclusive royalty-free licenses for their most advanced modular surface-mount technology for high purity gas distribution systems. Kinetics will offer the licenses in an effort to make modular surface-mount technology widely available at the lowest cost. The company will license its patent-pending K1S design, which is based on the 1 1/8" component interface using the same sealing specifications as described in SEMI PR 3.1.

"The acceptance of modular in the industry today clearly shows that the technology has matured, making it a viable solution for new tool and fab infrastructure design, and manufacturing process improvement," said Joseph Cestari, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development for Kinetics Electronics Division. "Since semiconductor manufacturers and equipment OEMs are reluctant to select products available from only a single source, we believe that licensing K1S to a wide number of players in the market will promote wider adoption of the technology. This will benefit the industry as a whole."

The development of modular surface-mount technology has been ongoing for over five years. Due to current market requirements and improved configurability and maintainability, modular surface-mount technology is emerging as the next-generation technology for high purity gas systems.

Kinetics provides turnkey outsource engineering and manufacturing services for gas delivery systems to wafer manufacturing equipment OEMs and fabs, with the modular surface-mount technology of choice for its customers. "As the leading supplier to the industry, our decision to widely license our most advanced surface mount technology provides a clear statement of Kinetics' commitment to an open industry standard," said Daniel Rubin, President of Kinetics Electronics Division.

Kinetics is a charter member of the modular surface-mount technology users group established to drive compliance to the interface specifications and to achieve commonality and interchangeability between products available in the market place. The users group's goal is to consolidate industry knowledge and experience with modular technology to facilitate improvements in the technical specifications and the introduction of new features.

Today, Kinetics is the world's largest provider of critical process infrastructure, uniquely positioned to meet its customers' needs to integrate new process manufacturing technologies and expand capacity in their facilities. The New Kinetics is an agile, global company committed to industry leadership, and to earning customer loyalty by delivering innovative solutions through exceptional teamwork.
