HARDWARE ENGINEERING MANAGER
Major duties
Key member of the New Product Development management team, responsible for technical domain of hardware design including development of design tools and enforcing best practices to insure technical integrity of the product line. Lead a diverse group of engineers with expertise in analog and digital design and work closely with experts in firmware, mechanical design, fluid dynamics, physics, digital signal processing, heat transfer, and metallurgy to develop next generation products undertaken to fulfill the company’s overall mission. Manage engineering projects, initiatives and processes, including coordination of engineering resources, to meet project deadlines and requirements effectively. Work closely with leaders of mechanical design and firmware to architect and develop next generation products. Responsibilities include personnel management, customer interface, technical content, design/documentation package generation and continued improvement of engineering processes. Manage staffing, training and performance appraisals to develop and improve the engineering group including development of team members, building trust, coordination and cooperation within the team and within the organization, to increase the capacity of the team. Responsible for satisfying both internal customers including product marketing, sustaining engineering and manufacturing, and external customers by maintaining customer dialog, checking in regularly to listen for concerns, satisfaction and/or dissatisfaction, with responsibility to take immediate action to address customer dissatisfaction. Must act where competent and seeks help where not.
Essential requirements
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering or relevant technical discipline (BSEE) from an accredited engineering university, advanced degree (MSEE) preferred, and demonstrated management and leadership qualities applying expertise in engineering principals ranging from theoretical to procedural. Must have at least 5 to 7 years of proven experience developing electro-mechanical products in a disciplined environment that includes clearly defined processes for controlling the product development process, configuration management, design guidelines, and handling change requests, of which at least 2 years are in a management capacity. Must demonstrate primary technical expertise in designing and developing PCB’s with analog and digital content including experience working with suppliers to develop robust test programs that produce high quality product. Knowledge of DFx design practices is desired.
